Jan 11: If You Can't Be Here Now, Will You Ever Be Able To Be?

Estimated Reading Time: 5 minutes

If you're like most of us, you spend a lot of your time focused on the future even when it’s not the New Year season – thinking of where you want to go, what you need to do to get there and how fast you can make it happen.

It's the mindset of growth, development and innovation – and in a lot of ways, it's not a bad thing at all. It's the reason we grow, evolve and become better versions of ourselves.

It's what gives us purpose, aspirations and a reason to get out of bed at 4:30AM.

Hell, it's probably the reason you're here, right now, reading this.

But left unchecked, it also has a dark side.

In the pursuit of always wanting to get somewhere, we often forget where we actually are. The things happening around us and life as we are experiencing it – in this moment.

We get so blinded by where we want to go that we de-value where we are and the moments that are building towards our future.

We become so fixated on the end game that we forget to pay attention to the game we are in, right here, right now.

Rest assured – you lose nothing by making sure you spend time in this moment, focusing on where you are right now.

So, enjoy the work you're putting in today...
Enjoy the struggles you're enduring today...
Enjoy the investments in your future you're making today...

Even if they aren't exactly where you want to be – yet.

Know that all of them will add up to the future you want and you lose nothing by experiencing them, enjoying them and paying attention to them, today.

With an un-promised future, they are really all you got.

In the words of Alan Watts:

You can’t live at all, unless you can live fully now.
— Alan Watts

Take a watch. It's good.
