Mar 9: What Do You Want?

If you don’t design your own life plan, chances are you’ll fall into someone else’s plan. And guess what they have planned for you? Not much.
— Jim Rohn

So, just what do you want more of in your life?

I mean really want.

Look up and think about that for a moment. Answer that. Give those desires words.

Naming, and really owning what we want in our lives is key. You don’t have to know how you will get there just yet (where’s the fun in that?), but knowing what you want is essential. As with any journey, if we don’t know where we want to go, then we take any new person or path offered to us and years later we wind up asking ‘how did I get here?’

If we can’t clearly speak our desires even to ourselves--the one person who will be with us every step of the way--we have no chance in hell of ever living the life we want.

So clarity on your wants in life is the name of the game this morning.

The more clearly and confidently we know what we want, the easier we can sift through the noise. Our clear desires act like guideposts, showing us when to say yes and when say no to the people, experiences and distractions that pull us in all directions every hour of the day. Saying no often isn’t easy, but the more we say no to what does not serve us, the more space and freedom we have to take risks and say yes to what we do want.

If you know you want to find a romantic partner, then get clear on what you are looking for, how you want it to feel, what kind of connection you are looking for, and seek ways to meet new people. When you know what you want it becomes easier to say yes to the people who are the right fit for you and let go of the rest.

If you know you deeply want to feel less stressed, more mindful, more zen, then harness this desire to drive you to declutter your life, your home, your daily schedule and seek out meditation classes, yoga, friends with similar zen-full interests, and to create space in your day for silence.

Sounds simple? Your turn

Sit for a few minutes and ask what do I really want, and what isn’t sitting right in my life anymore?

Capture these ideas. Thoughts are useless without action. List them on paper, in a journal, on your phone. Later you can ask what small steps can I take on a few of them today, this month? But this morning, dream a little, create that list and let them sink in. Let the scheming come later.

By clearly knowing what we want in life, we find we have the power to intentionally create more and in turn we settle less.

But wait, you may say, we know life doesn’t always give us what we want.

Too true. But that’s a topic for another Daily Dose.

Today it’s all about you and where you want this life to grow.  Give yourself full permission to want a life you love and to own the desires that will help you build the life you want.

And now, we got your Friday morning jam...
